Senior Services Cut
At the August 9, 2023 Board meeting, Debbie Briehan, Lisle Park District Senior Services Director, recognized the success of the Township’s Senior Services Director. Ms. Briehan talked about how much Lisle Township residents benefited from Senior Services.
Three months later, at the November 8, 2023 Board meeting, the current trustees voted to eliminate the Senior Services Director position due to “budgetary concerns”. Based on the November 8, 2023 Balance Sheet on the Township’s website, these budget concerns were invalid. The Balance Sheet (link below in comments) shows Total Assets of $11,370,151.16 with Equity of $3,097,836.39 in the Town Fund of the Supervisor’s Office. The Assets and Equity shown here were more than enough to cover the $65,000 annual salary of the Senior Services Director.
Recycling Program Not Supported
At the January 8, 2025 board meeting, the Trustees called to “immediately cease all aspects of this [recycling] program” citing concerns about liability and cost. Here’s a letter from DuPage County Board Environmental Committee Chair Sheila Rutledge praising the effectivness of this program. Below are three public comments in support of the program, which accepts materials not collected by curbside recycling. The Supervisor then decided to do all the labor without using any Township Labor or vehicles.
Supervisor Hewitt explained that the insurance company confirmed no additional liability was involved. The added cost was not an issue since the vehicle used was already making the needed route to pick up food pantry items. No extra trips would be required. If the Trustees still had concerns, they could have worked together to find solutions. This video shows all four trustees voting to stop the Recycle program.
